Willy Sagnol Joins Rush Soccer Board of Directors

Willy Sagnol has officially joined the Rush Soccer Board of Directors.  To say that Willy has achieved a lot in football is an understatement. The former French International and Bayern Munich player had a career full of success.  Willy won the Bundesliga five times with Bayern Munich as well as one Champions League in the 2000/2001 season. He also had a successful season with Monaco in 1999 winning the League. Willy’s career started in Saint-Etienne, his place of birth, where he played in the local Academy, then for the first team before heading to Monaco.  After a wonderful playing career, Willy took a career change and went into the managerial route. His first job was with the French Federation coaching the French U-21 National Team. He then joined Bordeaux as the Head Coach. In his first season in charge of the club, he finished sixth in the league table. Sagnol would later find a new role as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern Munich.  When Ancelotti was let go on September 28, 2017, Sagnol took charge of the club as interim manager. He would manage for just eight days and one match after Bayern Munich soon found a new permanent manager.

Sagnol brings so much experience to the Rush Family which will hopefully translate to success on and off the pitch.  Jérôme de Bontin, who is also heavily involved with Rush, played a key role in bringing Sagnol over to the Rush. Jérôme de Bontin says this about Willy Sagnol:

"Willy Sagnol is a true gentleman. Former teammates, team managers, fans... whoever you ask in Saint-Etienne, in Monaco, in Munich, in Bordeaux or at the French Federation, you will hear enthusiastic comments about his intelligence, his dedication, his generosity, his passion and humility in and around the game. He is an architect of the game and a man to reckon with when focusing on the future of the sport. I am very grateful for his commitment to and his future support of the Rush Organization."

Now that Rush Soccer has a professional team in Penn FC, they are now following the European model having a large youth academy below the professional team.  This is something that Sagnol is very familiar with, allowing him to influence the younger players heavily and guide them in the right direction.

Thank you Willy Sagnol for serving on the Rush Soccer Board of Directors.
